Traditional clock making dates back to the Black Forest region in the 18th century. During long winters, woodworkers and clockmakers created handmade clocks as both practical tools and decorative objects. These objects became elaborate pieces inspired by the nature around them. How innovative to use small bellows, whistles, and wood to make the mechanism of a cuckoo bird coming out of a clock at every hour. These days, that would probably be incredibly annoying to anyone, but back then it was timely, artistic, and playful.

Birds are so symbolic and beautiful that it's difficult to ignore. With the power of flight, they can soar wherever they want. They're a reminder of the time, which can ground a person. When we feel grounded, we can have a sense of placement in the universe. That's what these bird memes are meant to do, as well as work as a timer to the weekend. Like the cuckooing of a clock every hour, these memes take us closer and closer to the weekend.

I recently watched this French animated film called, Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart. It was so cute and inspiring. It's about a boy born without a heart, so when he's a baby a cuckoo-clock with a bird is sewn into his chest. He goes on to have a delicate existence, always being heavily watched and monitored so that he's okay. He's constantly told he can't fall in love, because the absence of a heart means that he can't bear the weight of love's burden. But, he meets girl…a girl in glasses.
